Details of your World Voice Day Event | Details of the World Voice Day Events by Santhosh Simon, Assistant Professor at ISU: The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Illinois State University, Normal, IL, celebrated World Voice Day with two distinguished guest speakers who shared their expertise and passion for vocal arts. Dr. Elizabeth Thompson, a renowned singer, voice teacher, and ISU faculty member, presented on the importance of respiration in speech and singing, incorporating innovative body mapping techniques. Dr. Thompson brings extensive performance experience in opera and concert works, and conducts research on trauma-informed voice studio practices. Mr. Sreejith Krishnan, a Carnatic vocalist and founder of the T R Rajaram School of Music, presented on vocal training techniques in Carnatic singing and explored the cultural roots of South Indian music. While maintaining his professional career as a Client Partner at an IT firm in Bloomington, Krishnan performs concerts across the Midwest and supports classical Indian dance productions nationwide. The event featured thoughtful interactions and engaging group activities, drawing participation from both students and professionals in the field. This celebration of voice showcased diverse vocal traditions and pedagogical approaches, creating a rich learning experience for all attendees. |
